We leverage the open standards, security and flexibility of our WEBserver HMI software to provide license-free SCADA functionality at a fraction of the cost of loading and maintaining PC-based SCADA software packages. For users with basic requirements for system visualization, alarm management, remote breaker control and limited data archival and trending, NovaTech can provide a complete SCADA system requiring only browser access from user PCs. In these systems, a local or remote OrionLX serves out standard and customized web pages. This browser-only design eliminates software maintenance and load issues on user PCs. NovaTech engineers can also design and commission a secure communication link between the OrionLX Webserver HMI and user PCs, including VPN and firewalls.

Support for Legacy NovaView Plus Systems
NovaTech can provide extensions and modifications to legacy NovaView Plus systems, including adding new RTUs, new users, new pages and new IEDs. Current and earlier software versions of NovaView Plus are maintained at our Lenexa engineering center.
PPL, with more than 1.4 million customers in Pennsylvania, use Orion to accommodate specific IEDs in substations and other settings. Standardized OrionLX distribution SCADA design in which all OrionLX contain the same NCD configuration. A one-page .csv file, with selections checked off by the operator, is also loaded into OrionLX to accommodate specific IEDs in substation and other settings.
The city of Seguin, TX chooses NovaTech’s to develop a low-cost SCADA system to serve out webpages to browsing PCs, requiring no investment in PC-based SCADA software. The presentation describes how the city uses the low-cost SCADA system based upon three OrionLX, one in each sub, to serve their needs.
Pedernales Electric Cooperative, the largest electric cooperative in the United States, uses Orion products to update their system. This presentation shows the migration from legacy RTUs to Orion5R, then to OrionLX. Includes “front-ending” legacy RTUs and using multiple Orions with STCP and Cascading.
This system demonstrates two simultaneous connections to a Form6 Control: one connection to access SCADA data and the other connection to access engineering data using ProView. The remote PC running ProView is connected via an analog dial-in phone line to the OrionLX which “passes through” ProView to the Form6. This application note details PC settings, OrionLX settings and Form6 settings to make this application work.
