NovaTech News: Researching American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Grants

Web Resources and General Info

The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a June 25th deadline for state government offices to apply for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. State energy offices should know funding award levels by late July/August; once awarded, they should be releasing RFPs for local companies to apply to for access to the funds.

Each state's funds are going to be awarded according to local priorities.  For example, one county with a NovaTech customer has such a large business population that they are releasing the funds as revolving low-interest loans for energy efficiency upgrades. Other areas may have different plans and initiatives.

Contacts and websites for State Energy Offices can be found at the National Association of State Energy Offices website (www.naseo.org).  Please check your state's office postings to see what funding opportunities will be available to you.

There are also opportunities to apply directly to the DOE for federal grants, contracts, cooperative agreements and other transactions through a competitive process.  Project applications will be solicited for a wide variety of projects focusing on renewable energy, advanced fossil energy, advanced batteries, smart grids, and industrial energy efficiency.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program will aim to reduce fossil fuel emissions through commercial building energy audits, financial incentives for energy efficiency improvements, and developing, implementing, and installing on-site renewable energy technology for government buildings.

The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) program are grants to private sector, state and local governments, national labs, and universities, including $156 Million for Combined Heat and Power, District Energy Systems, Waste Energy Recovery Systems, and Efficient Industrial Equipment.  See www.eere.energy.gov for more information.

All federal agencies must announce proposed contracts expected to exceed $25,000 on FedBizOpps.gov. For actions related to funds made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, select the Search Recovery Actions option. Also use the Find Recovery Act Opportunities option on www.grants.gov.

Customers interested in pursuing these or other ARRA grants together with NovaTech are encouraged to contact Barbara Anderman at barbaraanderman@novatechweb.com with preliminary information about the project and state and federal grants that may apply to their facility.
