NovaTech News: The New D/3® Console: Coming in 2010

Browser-Like Interface Built On .NET Architecture

A new, more powerful D/3 Console, slated for release in 2010, will provide a more flexible, configurable, and browser-like experience for operators, managers, and engineers working with a single D/3 DCS or with systems at multiple locations.  The console is currently undergoing testing by NovaTech personnel, and will be deployed for beta testing to key customer sites this autumn.  The console will be made available for all NovaTech customers in 2010.

Key Features

Browser-Like Display
Each window can display one or more tabs of process information including single loop, loop maintenance, system status, alarms (replaces InstAlarm), trending (replaces VersaTrend), product monitoring tabs and more. D/3 TotalVision® graphic windows are linked to the console windows and tabs.  Engineers and managers can monitor more than one D/3® system at the same time using separate windows or tabs within the same window.

User-Specific Data Visualization

The new console provides each user with customizable presets (including fonts, colors, and other parameters) and read/write permissions based on their login privileges and preferences.

Tree View Navigation
A comprehensive series of displays provide tree view navigation of an entire D/3 System. Indication of unacknowledged and acknowledged alarms are displayed, even if the tree view is collapsed, so the operator can quickly navigate to any trouble spot in the system.

Virtual 8000 Series I/O Panels
Navigating down a tree to an I/O node brings up a graphical replica of an 8000 Series I/O panel, complete with accurate representations of each module type and displaying real-time information through lights on the modules. Changes in the module configuration, health status, placement in (or removal from) the rack, and other information are updated in real-time.

Scheduled Printing
Any of the console's screens, including rends and PID loops, can be set to print ad hoc or on a regular schedule, for example at a shift change.

Trending
The new console provides a sophisticated but intuitive trending display that allows the engineer to create trend groups of many points and the user to display up to 8 points of immediate interest by just clicking check boxes.

End of Life
The new console will be released in version 14. At the request of our customers, the new console and PVN consoles will run side-by-side in version 14+ about a year after version 14 is released. After a about a year we will end support of PVN in new D/3 releases, however, NovaTech will continue to support the PVN console in earlier releases. Since the new console supports only TotalVision® graphics, customers still using PVN graphics are encouraged to contact NovaTech now to discuss graphics migration services to TotalVision.
