The recent DistribuTech tradeshow in San Diego was, “probably the most productive show we’ve ever had,” according to NovaTech Technical Sales Manager Eric Schultz.

Prior to the show’s start, NovaTech hosted a one-day orientation, training, and selling strategy session for the combined Orion and Bitronics® sales representatives.

This year’s booth highlighted solutions for NERC CIP, Smart RTUs, Distribution Automation, and the triumphant return of the Bitronics brand of measurement products.

The Bitronics “Wall o’ Measurement” demonstrated several applications, including an internet accessible substation model (see image above) that utilizes both Orion and Bitronics products.

This substation model has all the electrical elements of a 3-Phase substation and is scaled  as a high voltage 345-69 kV substation. This substation demo is equipped with Bitronics 70 Series IEDs providing measurement and control outputs and the Orion 5r as a web server and substation gateway. This substation model and the automation and control application are accessible online today to anyone with a Firefox browser.
Visitors to the site  can trip and close breakers, select several other pages for different views, see VARs change when capacitor bank circuit breakers trip, and see impedance measurements vary with failed capacitor cans.
